Look for Rainbows Day-to-Night Card

Hi, Everyone!

Welcome to my blog.  This week I have created a card that features a quote attributed to Oscar Wilde – “When it rains look for rainbows, when it is dark look for stars.”

This past week the theme at Simon Says Stamp’s Monday Challenge Blog was Starry Night. The inspiration was a stamp from Darkroom Door with the quote, but I didn’t have it at the time so I printed a version of it on Neenah Solar White 80# cardstock.

I created some texture in the background by sponging white pigment ink through Tim Holtz’ Burst layering stencil and using the same white pigment ink to stamp a line of music a Stamptember limited edition set from Simon Says Stamp.  The set is no longer available, but Tim Holtz has a full music background.

Once the white ink is dry, sponge a rainbow and sky using a combination of Distress and Distress Oxide inks.  I just used what I had and I do not have all colors in both formulas. I added some water splatter to give a slightly rainy effect.

I had to work around the inkjet printed quote/sentiment at the bottom in order to not obscure it with too much ink. I let the print out dry for at least an hour to minimize any possible smearing from using wet ink around it.

The Starry Night aspect of the card comes from using Tim Holtz’ Starry Swirl thinlits die to cut a swirl of stars out of Inkadinado Stamping Mask Paper. I used the mask paper as a stencil to sponge on glue over the Rainbow and sky.

Upon removing the starry stencil, I sprinkled on glow-in-the dark glitter and let dry.  The glitter ads a bit of texture until you turn out the light and then they stars glow.  The glow fades quickly, but it is a cool effect.

I hope you were inspired to try a glow-in-the dark project.  The video is available at YouTube here:   https://youtu.be/WmzSzEAhDLg
